Leg Penetration Analysis

Leg Penetration Analysis (LPA) of Jack-up drilling rigs and installation risk assessment (Punch Through, Rapid Penetration hazards) is one of the important competences of PARSIAN OFFSHORE GULF SURVEY. Before a jack-up is installed at a site, a prediction of the spudcans penetrations into the seabed as a function of the imposed loads should be made. The main purposes of this load-penetration prediction are calculation of spudcan tip penetrations during preloading and assessment the potential risk of punch through or rapid penetration.

Due to complex and time consuming analysis of leg penetration prediction, the use of robust and accurate software is essential. PGS has been able to present a new software named “SPUDCAL” to undertake a prediction of spudcan penetrations and risk of punch-through based on the available marine geotechnical information and borehole log data. The ‘SPUDCAL’ is designed base on the latest version of SNAME standard. The latest articles published in the most prestigious journals in the world have been used to draw up design method and validation. This software has greatly reduced the time of analysis, as well as computational and human errors. These advantages give user the opportunity to do a lot of accurate analysis in short time.
